Koh Rong Island - the "forgotten paradise" in Cambodia

Down south, off the coast of Sihanoukville there is a "forgotten paradise". It is a place of pristine beauty with long white sand and blue waters in Koh Rong Island.

The beautiful name "Forgotten Paradise" is in a foreign article for Koh Rong, one of the 45 most tourist attractions in 2012. By contrast with Thailand's bustling tourist resorts, Cambodian islands have been largely forgotten until now.

Visit Koh Rong from the vibrant seaside city of Sihanoukville

The most convenient way to get to Koh Rong is taking a 2 hour boat ride from Sihanoukville, a coastal city in southern Cambodia. If you are in South Vietnam, there are two ways to go to Sihanoukville. The easiest way is through Moc Bai border gate to Phnom Penh, then drive to south to Sihanoukville. Or alternate route is to Ha Tien, through Xa Xia border gate and cross Kampot province. Most of the tours follow the first way, while the second one is for those who want to go off the beaten track.

You can buy a boat ticket to Koh Rong at any hotel or travel agency in Sihanoukville. Round-trip tickets cost only US$ 5, but it would be more fun to join the Kok Rong Island tour from $20 to $35 because meals and snorkeling or diving services are already included in the trip. Boats usually ends within the dy and you can spend some free time exploring this vibrant seaside city.

Sihanoukville is most attractive at night. It is when the beach was flooded with dozens of restaurants and bars, mixed with fanciful candles lighted on hundreds of tables near the sea. Dining is also cheap, with just $ 3.5 to $ 5 for a fresh seafood dish. Don’t forget to enjoy the cool Angkor beer.

Another great plus for Sihanoukville's night is the fireworks. Local children sell fireworks to tourists along the beach. And after being filled with seafood, Sihanoukville is ready to please its visitors with many bustling bars on the sea until dawn.

The paradise of Koh Rong Samloem

It takes a two hour boat ride to get to Koh Rong Samloem. In the distance, you can see the beauty of this island with emerald water, fine white sand beach with tropical forest behinds. Opposite to a vibrant Sihanoukville, Koh Rong Samloem is truly a pristine and tranquil paradise that makes you fall in love as soon as you set foot on. You will be completely relaxed in the clean and warm waters of the tropics. You can also enjoy swimming and fishing and visit the fishing harbor.

On Koh Rong Samloem Island, there are almost no inhabitants but only one resort named Paradise in the style of the West. The resort offers beachfront bungalows for overnight stays. There is also a bar with a Western bartender, a huge beach dance floor for lively night parties for guests staying on the island.
